One day Hodja takes a scoop and pot and heads to the coast of Aksehir Lake and then starts to do something with the scoop in his hand. People start to watch him curiously. One of them asks out of curiosity:<\/p>\n

“Hodja, what are you doing?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Don\u2019t you see? I\u2019m fermenting the yoghurt for the lake.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Holy Hodja, does the lake ever hold yeast?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Friends, pals, I do know that it won\u2019t hold it; however, what if it happens?\u201d<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk\u00e7e:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hoca, g\u00fcn\u00fcn birinde kep\u00e7eyi, tencereyi al\u0131p Ak\u015fehir G\u00f6l\u00fc\u2019n\u00fcn k\u0131y\u0131s\u0131na gider; ba\u015flar elindeki kep\u00e7eyle bir \u015feyler yapmaya. Bu durumu g\u00f6renler merakla izlemeye ba\u015flar. \u0130\u00e7lerinden biri dayanamay\u0131p sorar:<\/p>\n

One day Nasreddin Hoca rides his donkey to fulfill the needs of somebody\u2019s house and heads for the bazaar. After a while the children intercepts the Hodja and asks:<\/p>\n

“Hodjam, where are you going?\u201d<\/p>\n

“To the bazaar.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Can you buy us a piper?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Sure I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

While this happens, one of the kids gives money to the Hodja and others only give their blessings to the Hodja. Hodja, who finished his bazaar shopping, heads for the home in exhaustion and the children intercepts him.<\/p>\n

“Hodja, welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Thank you kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then the children’s wishes begin:<\/p>\n

“Hodja our piper, Hodja my piper. Hodja, is there one for me?\u201d<\/p>\n

As he hears the words of the kids, Hodja hands out the piper to the kid who paid. This time kids start to complain as:<\/p>\n

“Is it okay Hodja, how about ours?\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon hearing this Hodja answers:<\/p>\n

“Children, Children! Who pays for the piper, plays the tune. See, your friend paid for it and now look how he plays it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nasreddin Hoca g\u00fcn\u00fcn birinde evinin ihtiya\u00e7lar\u0131n\u0131 gidermek \u00fczere e\u015fe\u011fine biner ve pazara do\u011fru yola koyulur. Bir s\u00fcre gittikten sonra \u00e7ocuklar Hoca\u2019n\u0131n yolunu keserler ve;<\/p>\n

“Hocam, nereye gidiyorsun? diye sorarlar.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Pazara gidiyorum.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Bize d\u00fcd\u00fck al\u0131r m\u0131s\u0131n?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Elbette al\u0131r\u0131m.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bu arada \u00e7ocuklardan birisi Hoca\u2019ya bir miktar para verir, di\u011ferleri ise Hoca\u2019ya iyi dileklerde bulunurlar. Pazar al\u0131\u015fveri\u015fini bitiren Hoca, yorgun arg\u0131n evine do\u011fru d\u00f6nerken \u00e7ocuklar yolunu keserler.<\/p>\n

“Hocam, ho\u015f geldin.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Ho\u015f bulduk \u00e7ocuklar.\u201d der.<\/p>\n

Ard\u0131ndan \u00e7ocuklar\u0131n istekleri ba\u015flar:<\/p>\n

“Hocam, bizim d\u00fcd\u00fck, Hocam benim d\u00fcd\u00fck, Hocam bana yok mu?\u201d gibi s\u00f6zleri i\u015fiten<\/p>\n

Hoca, cebinden \u00e7\u0131kard\u0131\u011f\u0131 d\u00fcd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc para veren \u00e7ocu\u011fa uzat\u0131r. Bu defa di\u011fer \u00e7ocuklar;<\/p>\n

“Olur mu Hocam, hani bize, hani bize?\u201d diye \u015fik\u00e2yete ba\u015flarlar. Bunun \u00fczerine Hoca;<\/p>\n

“\u00c7ocuklar, \u00e7ocuklar! Paray\u0131 veren d\u00fcd\u00fc\u011f\u00fc \u00e7alar, bak\u0131n arkada\u015f\u0131n\u0131z paray\u0131 verdi, d\u00fcd\u00fc\u011f\u00fcn\u00fc nas\u0131l \u00f6tt\u00fcr\u00fcyor.\u201d deyiverir.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Cauldron Has Given Birth \/ Kazan Do\u011furdu<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nasreddin Hoca asks for a cauldron from his neighbor. He fills the outside of the cauldron with ash, boils the bulghur, then cleans the cauldron and knocks on the neighbor’s door by putting a small pot in it. When the neighbor sees the pot in the cauldron, he asks Hodja in surprise:<\/p>\n

“Hodjam, what is this pot?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Neighbor, your cauldron was pregnant, it gave birth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The neighbor is satisfied with the situation. One day like this, two days like that, one day Hodja asks his neighbor for another cauldron. His neighbor happily gives the cauldron. However, despite the passing of days, Hodja could not bring the cauldron. Sensing something, his neighbor Hodja knocks on his door:<\/p>\n

“Hodja, can you give our cauldron back?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Neighbor, your cauldron is dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Upon this, the neighbor angrily scolds Hodja:<\/p>\n

“Ahoy Hodja! Does a cauldron ever die?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hodja answers his neighbor, laughing under his mustache:<\/p>\n

“Ahoy, you believe that the cauldron gave birth, but why don’t you believe that he died?\u201d<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk\u00e7e:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nasreddin Hoca kom\u015fusundan bir kazan ister, kazan\u0131n d\u0131\u015f\u0131n\u0131 k\u00fclle s\u0131var, bulgurunu kaynat\u0131r, sonra da kazan\u0131 g\u00fczelce temizler ve i\u00e7erisine k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck bir tencere koyarak kom\u015funun kap\u0131s\u0131n\u0131 \u00e7alar. Kom\u015fu kazan\u0131n i\u00e7indeki tencereyi g\u00f6r\u00fcnce \u015fa\u015fk\u0131n bir \u015fekilde Hoca\u2019ya sorar:<\/p>\n

“Hocam, bu tencere ne?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Kom\u015fu, senin kazan hamileymi\u015f, do\u011furdu.\u201d der.<\/p>\n

Kom\u015fu bu i\u015ften memnun kal\u0131r. Bir g\u00fcn b\u00f6yle, iki g\u00fcn b\u00f6yle derken g\u00fcn\u00fcn birinde Hoca, kom\u015fusundan bir daha kazan\u0131 ister. Kom\u015fusu da sevin\u00e7le kazan\u0131 verir. Fakat aradan g\u00fcnler ge\u00e7mesine kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131k Hoca kazan\u0131 bir t\u00fcrl\u00fc getirmez. Bir \u015feyler sezinleyen kom\u015fusu Hoca\u2019n\u0131n kap\u0131s\u0131 \u00e7alar:<\/p>\n

“Hocam, bizim kazan\u0131 verir misin?\u201d<\/p>\n

“Kom\u015fu, senin kazan \u00f6ld\u00fc.\u201d der.<\/p>\n

Bunun \u00fczerine kom\u015fu sinirli bir \u015fekilde Hoca\u2019ya \u00e7\u0131k\u0131\u015f\u0131r:<\/p>\n

“Yahu Hocam, hi\u00e7 kazan \u00f6l\u00fcr m\u00fc?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoca, b\u0131y\u0131k alt\u0131ndan g\u00fclerek kom\u015fusuna cevap verir:<\/p>\n

“Be adam, kazan\u0131n do\u011furdu\u011funa inan\u0131yorsun da \u00f6ld\u00fc\u011f\u00fcne neden inanm\u0131yorsun?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

There is No Escape from God\u2019s Mercy \/ Tanr\u0131n\u0131n Rahmetinden Ka\u00e7\u0131lmaz<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One day it’s raining cats and dogs. For sure, you either run or take shelter during the rain. While Nasreddin Hodja watches the rain and the loneliness of the streets he spots a man running from the rain. When Hodja looks more carefully he understands that it is one of his neighbors and he then opens the window and says:<\/p>\n

“Neighbor, neighbor aren\u2019t you ashamed, why are you running away from God\u2019s grace?\u201d The man stops and heads for home slowly when he hears the Hodja. While this happens, the man soaks wet.<\/p>\n

The next day is again rainy. This time Hodja is out in the streets for shopping. Hodja passes in front of the house of the neighbor whom he saw yesterday. This time his neighbor asks:<\/p>\n

“Hodja, Hodja, you told me to not escape from God’s mercy. Look, now you are running.\u201d Upon hearing this, Hodja turns to his neighbor and states:<\/p>\n

“Ahoy man! I\u2019m not escaping from God\u2019s mercy, I\u2019m running to not step on God’s Mercy.\u201d<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk\u00e7e:<\/strong><\/p>\n

G\u00fcn\u00fcn birinde bardaktan bo\u015fan\u0131rcas\u0131na ya\u011fmur ya\u011fmaktad\u0131r. Elbette ya\u011fmur ya\u011fd\u0131\u011f\u0131 vakit ya ko\u015fulur, ya da bir yerlere s\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131l\u0131r. Nasreddin Hoca da ya\u011fmurun ya\u011f\u0131\u015f\u0131n\u0131 ve sokaklar\u0131n yaln\u0131zl\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 pencereden seyrederken bir de bakar ki ya\u011fmurdan ka\u00e7an bir adam. Hoca biraz dikkatli bakt\u0131\u011f\u0131nda bunun bir kom\u015fusu oldu\u011funu anlar ve pencereyi a\u00e7arak;<\/p>\n

“Kom\u015fu, kom\u015fu, utanm\u0131yor musun, ni\u00e7in Allah\u2019\u0131n rahmetinden ka\u00e7\u0131yorsun?\u201d Deyince adam ko\u015fmay\u0131 b\u0131rak\u0131r ve yava\u015f yava\u015f evine do\u011fru gider. Bu arada adam\u0131n da \u0131slanmad\u0131k yeri kalmaz.<\/p>\n

“Hoca Efendi, Hoca Efendi, sen d\u00fcn bana \u2018Allah\u2019\u0131n rahmetinden ka\u00e7\u0131lmaz. Demi\u015ftin; bak \u015fimdi kendin ka\u00e7\u0131yorsun.\u201d deyince, Hoca kom\u015fusuna do\u011fru d\u00f6ner ve;<\/p>\n

“Be adam! Ben Allah\u2019\u0131n rahmetinden ka\u00e7m\u0131yorum, Allah\u2019\u0131n rahmetini \u00e7i\u011fnememek i\u00e7in ko\u015fuyorum.\u201d der.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

One day the three priests stops by Ak\u015fehir. Here, the priests, who are talking with Nasredding Hoca, want to test the knowledge of the Hodja. First priest asks the first question:<\/p>\n

\u201cHodja, where is the center of the Earth?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hodja, without hesitation, shows his donkey and answers:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe place where my donkey\u2019s front right leg steps\u201d.<\/p>\n

One of them complains:<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you know it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGo calculate it if you don\u2019t believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n

This time, second priest asks:<\/p>\n

\u201cHodja, how many stars are up there?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hodja, again without hesitation, shows his donkey and answers:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are as many stars in the sky as the hair on my donkey’s tail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once it is asked, \u201cCan you prove it?\u201d, Nasredding Hoca replies:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can count it if you please.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the Hodja’s answers to the questions surprise the priests, they stop asking the third question.<\/p>\n

G\u00fcn\u00fcn birinde \u00fc\u00e7 papaz\u0131n yolu Ak\u015fehir\u2019e u\u011frar. Burada Nasreddin Hoca ile sohbet eden papazlar, Efendi\u2019nin bilgisini denemek isterler. \u0130lk soruyu birinci papaz sorar:<\/p>\n

One day, one of the neighbors asked for a clothesline from Nasreddin Hodja. Nasreddin Hodja doesn\u2019t like the attitude of the neighbor as the neighbor never returns the borrowed goods. Hodja says:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dear neighbor, wait a bit; I\u2019ll find the string.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a while, Hodja appears at the door.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy God, my neighbor, my wife has spread flour on the string.\u201d<\/p>\n

Surprised by this answer, the neighbor cannot hide his anger and states:
\n-Ahoy Hodja, are you making fun of me? Do you ever spread flour on the string?<\/p>\n

Hodja answers to the man with a indifferent attitude:<\/p>\n

-\u201cEh!. . When a person does not want to, he spreads flour and even wheat on his string\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHodja, you are a man who has experience and knowledge, you\u2019ll know it. How long will people be dead?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hodja understands the intention of the man, after stroking his beard, he answers:<\/p>\n

\u201cAhoy man, what is not to know about it? Until heaven and hell are full.\u201d<\/p>\n

T\u00fcrk\u00e7e:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Geveze adam\u0131n biri Nasreddin Hoca\u2019yla sokakta kar\u015f\u0131la\u015f\u0131r.<\/p>\n

\u201cHoca Efendi, sen g\u00f6rm\u00fc\u015f ge\u00e7irmi\u015f ve okumu\u015f bir adams\u0131n, bilirsin. \u0130nsanlar ne zamana kadar \u00f6lecekler?\u201d diye sorar.<\/p>\n

Just at that moment a strange noise occurs from the neighboring shop as if an ox is screaming. In order to stall the barber a bit, Hodja says:<\/p>\n
